    A blend of dance, pilates, yoga, and figure skating techniques will tone and shape the body long and lean. Concentration on core body (hip to shoulder) exercises and stretching will increase your strength, flexibility, agility, posture and health of your back and abs. Energizing and great for any physical fitness level; learn how to move safely and at your own pace. Modifications will be given for students with physical injuries or concerns. No experience necessary!
    **Equipment needed: yoga/pilates mat and a firm blanket.
    The Appleton Parks and Recreation Department and Town of Menasha are partnering to offer several classes at both facilities. All classes are offered for ages 14 to adult and are offered with a drop in fee of $10.00 or a full session fee. The $10.00 drop in fee is paid at the class. Full session fees are paid in advance by registering for the class through the Appleton Parks and Recreation Department or the Town of Menasha.     Our current culture of busyness, distraction, and urgency leaves us feeling hollow and uneasy—like we’re constantly “on our way” someplace else. Though this mode isn’t sustainable, there is another path: mindfulness. Mindfulness is being in the present moment in an open, non-judgmental way. When we’re mindful, we listen, notice, focus, and create. More importantly, we’re present in our own lives.

    Mindfulness 101: This 5-week course includes formal instruction on meditation, current research on mindfulness, ways to work with difficult emotion, methods for cultivating positive experience, and suggestions for informal practice. The elongated time-frame lets students fully engage and form new habits. Because the practices accumulate, regular attendance is important.

    Mindfulness 201: When students practice mindfulness, it awakens their inner wisdom and awareness. Yet it’s easy to stop practicing—we often resist the habits that bring us ease and healing. This second 5-week course re-establishes practices of meditation and mindfulness. It also provides new instruction on compassion, well-being, self-kindness, and meaningful communication. (*The course is reserved for people who’ve taken Mindfulness 101.)

    About the teacher: Joy Jordan is both a teacher and student of mindfulness. She left her 20-year academic career, not knowing what was next. Now she lives, teaches, writes, and photographs through the lens of mindfulness.

    316417 - Fitness Training with a Certified Personal Trainer

    Join Margaret Collett, Certified Personal Trainer, as she partners with Appleton Parks and Recreation to provide a small group training session that will crush your fitness goals!
    Each training session will be a boot camp style workout located at an Appleton Park, utilizing their natural environment and manmade features to provide you a total body workout comprised of strength drills, cardio blasts, and core work. Be prepared to use equipment such as TRX, Battle Ropes and Dumbbells, as well as your own bodyweight.
    To enhance the workouts, you will be required to provide a set of dumbbells. These should be a medium weight, typically 8-15lbs depending on your strength level.
    In the event of inclement weather, group will meet at the Scheig Center at Memorial Park.

    Join Margaret Collett, Certified Personal Trainer, as she partners with Appleton Parks and Recreation to provide a small group training session that will crush your fitness goals!
    Each training session will be a boot camp style workout located at an Appleton Park, utilizing their natural environment and manmade features to provide you a total body workout comprised of strength drills, cardio blasts, and core work. Be prepared to use equipment such as TRX, Battle Ropes and Dumbbells, as well as your own bodyweight.
    To enhance the workouts, you will be required to provide a set of dumbbells. These should be a medium weight, typically 8-15lbs depending on your strength level.
    In the event of inclement weather, group will meet at the Scheig Center at Memorial Park.
