    153329 - Teen Core

APRD is excited to announce the launch of our brand new teen recreation program, "Teen Core"! This program has been developed by teens, for teens, to be equal parts athletic, developmental and social, and 100% FUN! This year round program will feature a variety of great activities and events, giving teens a chance to play and develop their skills in many of their favorite traditional sports, along with opportunities to try and learn new activities! Every event will provide our participants with a chance to make new friendships, explore new abilities, and learn how to make sports and phsyical activity a rewarding, permanent part of their lives!

    2018 WINTER PROGRAM DETAILS!
We've got some great sports and activities to stay active through the winter months... round up some friends and come be a part of the fun!

CO-ED TEEN CORE BASKETBALL: Saturdays - January 13 through February 3 (4 weeks) - 10:00am - NOON (approx) at Madison Middle School - Auxilliary Gym - grades 7 through 9 (approx ages 12-15 yrs old)
FORMAT: No spectators, no "coaches"... just basketball, just FUN! While trained staff members / facilitators will lead the program each week, the participants are the ones who will control the experience! The first hour of each week will focus on skill competitions and game improvement, while the second hour will feature organized games between teams! Friends will be allowed to stick together, but the league will also promote an inclusive atmosphere where the teams are mixed up frequently. Basketball experience is helpful, but NOT REQUIRED... this will be an inclusive environment, (not a competitive one), where the staff will help you learn, and enjoy the game! All registrations will include an exclusive "Teen Core" t-shirt!

CO-ED TEEN CORE BROOMBALL DAY! - Monday, January 22 from 10am until noon (No school for AASD that day) at Erb Park Ice Rink, grades 7 through 9 (approx ages 12-15 yrs old)
FORMAT: Come learn how to play a favorite Midwest pastime... BROOMBALL! Similar to hockey, but played in your shoes, with a large ball and "brooms" for sticks. No experience necessary... our staff will give a quick overview of the game and the skills involved, and we'll break into teams and play! After the games we'll head indoors to the new Erb Park Warming Shelter to get warm and enjoy some refreshments / hot cocoa!

FUTURE of APRD TEEN CORE - This 4 week session will be an introduction to a program that we hope will grow and expand over the coming year, to include a mix of LEARN TO PLAY clinics, organized leagues that allow kids a chance to CONTINUE TO PLAY the sports and activities they love, and DISCOVER events that will introduce kids to brand new activities and experiences!

    214715 - Mindfulness

    214715 - Mindfulness

Mindfulness 101: This 5-week course includes formal instruction on meditation, current research on mindfulness, tools to work with difficult emotion, methods for cultivating positive experience, paths to self-compassion, and suggestions for informal, everyday practice. The elongated time-frame lets students fully engage and form new habits.

Mindfulness 201: When students practice mindfulness, it awakens their inner wisdom and awareness, yet it's easy to stop practicing - we often resist the very habits that bring us ease and healing. This second 5-week course re-establishes practices of meditation and mindfulness, and provides new instruction on self-compassion, inner-reflection, meditation, and everyday mindfulness practices. (*The course is reserved for people who've taken Mindfulness 101.)

Mindfulness for the Holidays: Though holidays bring celebration and connection, they also bring stress and busyness. It's possible to slow down during the holidays: to focus on what's most important; to savor the moments. This one-night workshop provides guided meditations and practical suggestions for bringing more awareness, space, and love to the holidays.

About the teacher: Joy Jordan is both a teacher and student of mindfulness. She left her 20-year academic career, not knowing what was next. Now she lives, teaches, writes, and photographs through the lens of mindfulness.
