This program will help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. The courses in this program teach skills that participants need to know to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over.
136205 - Lifeguard Training
Qualify to be a lifeguard by passing this course.
Prerequisites: Be 15 years of age on or before the last day of class and able to swim 300 yards continuously. Participants must also be able to swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object within 1 minute 40 seconds. Course includes First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Course books are provided on the first day of class. Lifeguard Training is good for 3 years, First Aid and CPR Professional certification is valid for 2 years.

Mindfulness 201: When students practice mindfulness, it awakens their inner wisdom and awareness, yet it's easy to stop practicing - we often resist the very habits that bring us ease and healing. This second 5-week course re-establishes practices of meditation and mindfulness, and provides new instruction on self-compassion, inner-reflection, meditation, and everyday mindfulness practices. (*The course is reserved for people who've taken Mindfulness 101.)
Boost for Summer: Summer is an abundant yet busy time. It's helpful to boost our inner resources before we enter the beautiful and frenetic summer season. This 90-minute mindfulness session provides a safe space to show up as-is, attend inward, and just be. We'll actively practice - meditation, reflection, and expressive writing - as well as discuss mindfulness for daily life. It's possible to bring more peace, ease, and happiness to the summer months. No special equipment, clothes, or experience necessary. Show up just as you are.
About the teacher: Joy Jordan is both a teacher and student of mindfulness. She left her 20-year academic career, not knowing what was next. Now she lives, teaches, writes, and photographs through the lens of mindfulness.

Our innovative, 4 week Sports Exploration Camp is a great way for pre-school aged children to experience a variety of new sports and activities in a format that is structured, engaging, and most of all...FUN! Children will have an opportunity to explore a new sport each week, learn some basic skills, and participate in fun games that will reinforce listening, teamwork, and the joy of being active! *This camp utilizes parent participation! One parent or older sibling (16 or older) will be expected to actively participate with each child enrolled.
Registration is based on the age your child will be on the first day of camp.

This exciting, upbeat style emphasizes proper body alignment and clean technique. Classes include stretch and strength exercise, a barre warm-up, across the floor exercises, combinations and center floor work. Students will work on body isolations, musicality, and turns, kicks and jumps. Ballet is strongly recommended as an enhancement to this class and essential for those striving toward the highest level of skill.
Attire: A leotard and skirt/shorts or fitted dance attire that is comfortable to move in. Tops such as tanks or fitted tees are acceptable. Bottoms may include shorts (with tights), yoga or jazz capris and leggings. Wearing fitted clothing allows your teacher to be sure you are moving your body in the correct way to prevent injury. Black jazz shoes, either slip on or lace up are required.
312102 - Lyrical - Summer
A fusion of ballet and jazz dance techniques. Movements in lyrical dance are choreographed to show the meaning of the music and are characterized by their grace, emotion and fluidity. Students are asked to have some background in ballet and jazz.
Attire: A leotard and shorts or fitted dance attire that is comfortable to move in. Tops such as tanks or fitted tees are acceptable. Bottoms may include shorts (with tights), yoga or jazz capris and leggings. Wearing fitted clothing allows your teacher to be sure you are moving your body in the correct way to prevent injury. Tan jazz shoes, foot undies, dance paws, or half-sole jazz shoes in nude are required.
312103 - Hip Hop - Summer
This is a fun, energetic class combining street dance, hip-hop and jazz. This style of dance can be seen in music videos. Class will be tasteful and age appropriate.
It is preferred if you wear loose or baggy clothing that you are comfortable moving in. Acceptable attire includes tank tops, t-shirts, sweat pants, dance pants, shorts, athletic apparel, etc. Students should have black hip hop shoes. Advanced Hip hop students should have "double platinum sequin sneakers" (Converse style) dance shoes.
312105 - Acrobatics - Summer
Class focuses on tricks, flexibility and body strengthening. Students learn the fundamentals of movement and timing as well as partner stunts. The skills learned transfer easily to other activities such as poms and cheerleading. Advanced Acro placement is by instructor recommendation only. Flexibility, good cardio and no fear are what drive this level of class!
Attire: A leotard and shorts or fitted dance attire that is comfortable to move in. Tops such as tanks or fitted tees are acceptable. Bottoms may include shorts, yoga and jazz capris or leggings. It is highly recommended that students wear a leotard or sports bra under their clothing, as they will be upside down throughout the class. Boys should wear a shirt long enough to tuck in. Student should be bare foot during class.
312106 - Ballet - Summer
The foundation of all dance forms and essential for reaching one's fullest potential as a dancer. Body placement, flexibility, balance, strength and technique are achieved through barre and center floor work. In ballet, students will not only develop grace and poise but the self-discipline needed to excel as a dancer.
Attire: A leotard and skirt/shorts or fitted dance attire that is comfortable to move in. Tops such as tanks or fitted tees are acceptable. Bottoms may include shorts (with tights), yoga or jazz capris or leggings. Wearing fitted clothing allows your teacher to be sure you are moving your body in the correct way to prevent injury. It is highly recommended that pointe dancers wear tights with their pointe shoes. Ballet slippers are required. Any style is appropriate so long as they are ballet pink (not white or black.)
312109 - Stomp It Out - Summer
Inspired by the original Stomp UK based group started in the early 90's, this class teaches jazz and percussion basics. Stomp-It Out is a group dance class to enhance the student's rhythmic dance skills and gain confidence in performing. Activities in class will include iconic STOMP props like brooms, drumsticks, and more.
Attire: A leotard and skirt/shorts or fitted dance attire that is comfortable to move in. Tops such as tanks or fitted tees are acceptable. Bottoms may include shorts (with tights), yoga or jazz capris and leggings. Wearing fitted clothing allows your teacher to be sure you are moving your body in the correct way to prevent injury. So you'd like to sign up for dance, but don't know where to start? Give Unity Dance Academy's Summer Dance Camp a try. It's a fun opportunity to experience three genres of dance (Hip Hop, Ballet and Jazz) with no long commitments! We will focus on basic techniques, simple dance steps a proper body placement.
Attire: Students should come to class wearing minimal jewelry. Long earrings are especially unsafe. Students should also come with their hair pulled back and away from their face. Please label your dance shoes to help ensure they are not lost! Please no jeggings or midriff-baring tops! We also ask that students do not wear street shoes in the studio.
312300 - Youth Tennis Camps - Session I
Children ages 8-14 of ALL ability levels are invited to join us for our 4 week Youth Tennis Camps and Friday Junior Team Tennis! These camps will focus on making tennis an enjoyable and rewarding activity and emphasize recreational play. Beginners will learn the basic fundamentals and rules of the game, while intermediate students with a year or two of experience will further develop their ground strokes (forehand/backhand), volley, serve and consistency. Advanced students who have developed their game and shown an interest in competitive tennis will have an opportunity to challenge themselves with advanced technique and strategy.
Two qualified instructors will work with the participants based on skill level.
FRIDAY JUNIOR TEAM TENNIS OPPORTUNITY - Youth Tennis Camp participants are invited to join us for Friday Junior Team Tennis, an exciting USTA team play format that allows kids to compete against opponents of similar ability while earning points towards an overall team score. Participants will be divided into teams on the first day of play, and will play a formal singles match and a formal doubles match each week, under the guidance of experienced coaches. Players will receive USTA medals at the completion of each Junior Team Tennis Session (4 weeks)

312302 - Camp APRD
Our summer Camp provides a safe, fun and active environment in which children can develop new skills, self-esteem and friendships. This camp will be action packed with themed activities that correspond with our exciting field trips*! A field trip is scheduled during each week of Camp APRD (all field trip costs have been built into the cost of the program). Other weekly activities include a trip to Mead or the new Erb Pool, fishing, ice skating at the Appleton Family Ice Center, archery, canoeing, an afternoon snack and great memories. Campers will also check out the Scheig Center for a nature break, have mini Zumba classes, learn cool things with the Watershed Alliance, hang out with the city's own fire, police and forestry departments! Who doesn't want to learn to climb a tree? Participants should bring a bag lunch and water bottle each day. *Field trips are subject to change based on availability.

Soccer is one of the best ways to introduce a child to the joy of sports, with skills and concepts that are simple to grasp and develop. This introductory/beginner level camp will teach the basic fundamentals of soccer through fun, interactive games and activities, and will help prepare kids to participate in our recreational soccer leagues. Game-like situations will be used to introduce basic rules and strategy. Age appropriate equipment and a full staff of experienced youth camp instructors will make this camp both safe and FUN for all participants!

Join members from Appleton United Lacrosse's coaching staff and players as they introduce skills, drills, and fundamental discovery of one of the fastest growing sports in the country! Lacrosse is like football, basketball, soccer, and hockey all rolled into one fast paced sport...you will not want to miss this opportunity!

312306 - Dog Day at the Pool
Offered at Mead Pool. Register early for a whole lotta doggone fun! Owners can watch their dogs swim all while enjoying the company of other dogs in this fun filled event! Pre-registration is highly recommended, but walk ups will be accepted. A maximum of 50 dogs per session will be allowed this year, no exceptions! Owners MUST bring vaccination papers with them to the pool showing most recent vaccinations.
FEES: $5 per dog - Owners are NOT allowed to swim with pets per local and state health codes
AGES: Adults ages 18 and over. Children under 18 must have adult supervision
TIME: 9:00-10:30 a.m. - Dogs under 25 lbs.
11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. - Dogs over 25 lbs.
Aggressive dogs, dogs in heat, or dogs under 4 months of age will not be allowed.
Clean up after your dogs! Baggies will be provided for clean up.
Dogs must wear flat buckle /snap collars for controlling in facility
No prong, choke, or training collars
Drinking water for dogs will be provided
Humans are not allowed in water

312307 - Youth Intro Basketball Camps
Our new, Youth Intro Basketball Camp is a fun, well-rounded introduction to the game of basketball! This camp will give children an opportunity to explore their abilities and develop their core skills. It will focus on dribbling/ball handling, shooting with proper form, and teamwork. All APRD intro sports camps are designed to prepare kids for participation in our recreational sports leagues. Game-like situations will be used to explain rules and strategy, and a staff of experienced youth camp instructors will make this camp both safe and FUN for all participant!
312308 - Bike Rodeos
BIKE RODEOS The Bike Rodeo will teach your child the basic skills needed to bike safely on the road. Stations will include looking back without swerving, riding straight while missing potholes and crossing busy streets safely. Other stations may include seeing and being seen, chaos corner and riding safely out of a driveway. In addition, children will learn basic bicycle & helmet sizing and maintenance. Parents are strongly encouraged to participate so they too learn cycling road sense. The May Bike Rodeo will have the Appleton Police and Fire departments there to help join in the fun and support May being Bike to School Month. This is a great opportunity for you and your child to learn safe bicycling together.
*Event may end early/late depending on the number of participants.

Do you want your child to have the confidence to bike to the park or to the store? Want your child to have the training to ride their bikes safely and correctly? As an Urban Rider they'll learn bike handling skills, rules of the road, and how to have fun getting wherever they want to go! Intermediate/Advanced participants should have at least one year of formal lessons and will work on the development of their ground strokes, volleys, serves and game play strategy.

This is the class you have been waiting for! The Kayak Skills class emphasizes safety, enjoyment and skill acquisition for all entry level participants. Learn about basic kayak maneuvers, outfitting your boat to fit your needs and basic safety principles. Upon completion of this class, there will be an optional outing on the Fox River so you can put your skills to use immediately. Instruction is taught by members of the Northeast Wisconsin Paddlers. June 12 - Kids and Stepping Stones Workshop
Looking for the perfect gift for Father's Day? This is a great opportunity for an adult to bring a child to create a unique, one of a kind stepping stone or two to take home! If you have them, bring any memorabilia like shells, stones, glass beads, leaves, etc. All other supplies will be provided. Wear appropriate clothing and be prepared to get creative! To take your treasure home, bring a cookie sheet or box to carry home the stones.
June 19 - Have you ever wanted to make a beautiful and colorful accent for your garden or as a gift for that gardener in your life? Join us on June 19 at 6-7:30 p.m. to do exactly that! Steve Schultz, owner of Steve's Leaves will share his technique on creating beautiful cement leaves that can be used as birdfeeders, bird baths or patio accents. In this one and a half hour workshop you will make a cement leaf that will cure for a few days. Steve will also share his unique approach to painting leaves that you can do at home. You will enjoy Steve's fun and humorous approach to this craft! All materials will be covered in the cost of $40. Register early to make sure you have a place in this workshop. Space is limited to 15 people.

Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills
Children ages 4-5 must have taken the Kindergarten Intermediate class and passed. Children ages 6 & up may enroll in Level 1.
Students will learn basic water safety rules, how to use life jackets, submerging their mouth, nose and eyes, opening their eyes underwater, swimming on front and back using arm and leg actions, water safety skills, and front and back floats.
